HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team ended its three-game series against Houston Baptist University (HBU), closing out the weekend with an 8-7 loss to the Huskies on Sunday afternoon at Husky Field.
After three HBU runs, the Cardinals jumped to a 5-3 lead with four runs in the sixth inning. With a runner on second,
Roberto Gonzalez hit an RBI double to right field.
Alec Carr then singled to bring Gonzalez home, and
Hernan Yanez topped of the scoring stretch with a two-RBI homer to right field.
HBU responded with five runs through the seventh and eighth frames before UIW scored in the top of ninth off a two-RBI double from Gonzalez to cut the Husky edge to one (8-7).
The Huskies held on to their lead to win the series finale.

The Cardinals continue their road stretch with a matchup at 6 p.m. CT at Texas State University on Tuesday, May 3.
