SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 6-5, in the series finale against Southeastern Louisiana (SLU) on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
 
Wilson Ehrhardt recorded four hits on the day, while Hernan Yanez finished with two RBIs.  
 
The Lions scored early (1-0), but Ehrhardt led off the bottom of the first, blasting a homer to center field to draw the game even at 1-1. With two outs, Yanez and Nixon Brannan brought in two runners to give UIW a 3-1 advantage.
 
SLU scored one run but left two stranded to head into the bottom of the second down one (3-2).
 
Taylor Darden hit a pop up to the second baseman, who lost it in the sun as Darden took first while moving Ehrhardt to third. Roberto Gonzalez then toed the left field line for an RBI double (4-2).
 
Chandler David entered the game, pitching three up, three down to maintain the Cardinals' lead heading into the bottom of the third. Shortstop, Grant Smith saved the fourth inning with a running catch on the left field line, stranding Lions on second and third base.
 
Yanez hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, but SLU added four to the board to take a 6-5 edge.
 
Steve Hayward closed out the top of ninth with three up, three down, but SLU ultimately won game three, 6-5.

The Cardinals host another Southland Conference series beginning on Friday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m. CT and ending on Sunday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
