HOUSTON –Houston Baptist University (HBU) hosted the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team on Friday afternoon at Husky Field. The Huskies defeated the Cardinals, 13-6.
UIW took a 3-0 edge to start the game after an RBI single from
Roberto Gonzalez in the first, followed by a two-RBI double from
Jimmy De Leon in the second inning.
The Cardinals and Huskies tied the game up, 4-4, in the fourth frame until HBU scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to jump to a 10-4 lead.
Alec Carr tripled to left center then scored off a wild pitch in the sixth inning (10-5). UIW struck again in the seventh off a sacrifice fly from
Hernan Yanez, but HBU added another run to the board in the bottom of the inning to maintain an 11-6 advantage.
Two more Husky runs came in the ninth as HBU took game one, 13-6.

Game two of the series is set for 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 30, at Husky Field.
