Baseball Ends Houston Series

HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped the final game of the series against the University of Houston (UH), 9-4, on Sunday afternoon at Schroeder Field.

The Cardinals had eight hits and Keaton Grady finished a two-hit day. Joey Baran notched two RBIs.

After singling to center field, Grady advanced to second and third base on wild pitches. Grant Smith had an RBI double, and Roberto Gonzalez brought Smith home to close the first inning, 2-0.

UH was quiet until the third inning when a Cougar homered with two on base to take a one-run lead (3-2).

Baran doubled down the right field line in the fourth frame to bring home Alec Carr and Ridge Rogers (4-3). Houston matched the two runs and added two more to the board in the bottom of the inning to end the fourth with a 7-4 lead.

A two-run home run in the fifth inning put Houston ahead, 9-4. Another home run in the bottom of the eighth gave the Cougars a 10-4 edge to win the series, 2-1.
