HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell to the University of Houston (UH), 5-2, in game one of the three-game series Friday night at Schroeder Field.
Roberto Gonzalez and
Nixon Brannan each had two hits on the night, while
Keaton Grady and
Hernan Yanez notched one hit apiece. Brady and Yanez had the Cardinals' two RBIs.
A Cougar home run in the second inning gave UH an early 1-0 lead.
Jimmy De Leon was walked to start the top of the fifth. Brannan singled though the left side and
Ridge Rogers bunted as De Leon and Brannan advanced to second and third. Grady stepped to the plate and grounded out to the short stop to bring home De Leon and tie the game up, 1-1. In the bottom of the frame, UH had an RBI single to right field to reclaim the lead (2-1).
To start the sixth,
Hernan Yanez belted out a homer to left field to level the game, 2-2. The Cougars added three runs to the board in the bottom of the inning to clinch a 5-2 win.
